Super Mario Bros. Infinite Coin Glitch

Infinite coins = infinite lives. Woo!

Ok, I’ve yet to try this out myself but I just found a video on YouTube that might be of interest to anyone who’s struggling with New Super Mario Bros. Wii.

A seeming glitch in the game can be exploited to allow the player to harvest infinite coins, it seems. Obviously, this also leads to infinite lives.

According to the poster, evilhenchman 2, this is how it’s done:

“World 4-final castle. You need 2 players to do it and one of them must have ice. At the spot where the fence has a long rectangular switch panel, kill all but one koopa. One player gets on the switch panel and waits until the koopa is also on it. The player on the panel hits the switch causing the panel to flip with the koopa on it. While is it flipping, the other player freezes the koopa. The switch must be moving when you do it. If you do it correctly you’ll get the result seen in the video.”

Here’s the vid: if anyone tries this out, let us know how you get on.

Awesome – not for the extra lives of course, (I had about 48 lives by the time I got to the end of World 2) but because this is what Mario was all about – glitches, secrets and tricks – I remember you used to have to read about this sort of thing in a free book with a magazine, or go around a mate’s house because he’d found out another infinite lives spot. The best tricks in Mario are the ones which need skill to pull off – like the constant goomba jumps. I dislike the fact that the coins only unlock hint videos in the new mario, but when i’ve squeezed every last bit of playability out of the thing, I’ll be trawling through them to see if there’s any tricks I’ve missed.
