Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 breaking records

There has been a flood of new releases this week as the games market gears up for Christmas. In spite of this, the record breaking Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has hung on to the top spot.

According to GfK chart track, sales of MW 2 are down 86 per cent on last week, which shows just how phenomenal they were in the first few days.

Another big game to hit the charts this week is Asassin’s Creed II. When the original was relesed back in 2007 it went straight in at number one, but the sequal has had to take second place to MW 2.

Ant and Dec have been earning their hefty paychecks, as Nintendo’s comprehensive ad. campaign is clearly paying off. Three Wii titles make up the rest of the top five, led by the newly revamped Super Mario Bros. Wii.

EA’s Left 4 Dead 2 has received mixed reviews, reflected by its modest first week placement at number seven. Dragon Age: Origins has also been a bit of a disappointment, though we think that deserves to have charted higher than 17th place.
