Atari Adds a Fistful of Free Games

Asteroids, Lunar Lander & Battlezone all free

Legendary games company Atari has added a new section to its website that lets you play some really rather classic oldies for absolutely zilch.

The games on offer are Asteroids, Lunar Lander, Battlezone, Adventure, Crystal Castles, and Yars’ Revenge. That’s a whole lot of bang (and bleeps) for zero bucks.

On the whole, retro ‘classics’ are invariably less fun than you remember; the rose tinted glasses of nostalgia have a lot to answer for. This collection includes a lot of titles that prove every rule has its exceptions, though. The simple physics-based joys of Lunar Lander are still utterly addictifying today, and Asteroids will always be a monster of a title. Oh, and fans of Diablo or the Elder Scrolls games should fire up Adventure at least once for a look at the roots of videogame roleplaying.
