Find out if you’re ‘IT Savvy’

However the British Computing Soceity defines it

The British Computer Society has launched a new website to cater for Britain’s 80 percent who they say aren’t ‘IT savvy’.

To find out if you’re one of the 20 percent of ‘IT savvy’ folks (thankfully a definition of IT savvy is posted) there’s a quiz here

http://savvycitizens.bcs.org

It seems to measure one’s IT prowess on the basis of file and photo sharing via social networking etc.

Well that’s some in depth probing.

Elizabeth Sparrow, President of the BCS, commented: “Unless all members of society are made aware of how they can access and use information in their daily lives, the significant proportion of Britons who are failing to realise the benefits of information technology will persist.”

“This is not just a question of access: information-savvy citizens also know how to use information and information technology to their advantage.”

16/16

I don’t wether to be proud or despair at the quality of questions.

I was a little suspicious of that 20% being “IT savvy”, but when I took the test, I laughed (I got 15/16 by the way).

Every question stemmed around “can you use a webpage, search engine, etc”. Pathetic.

I would have though it would be more appropriate to phrase questions such as “you’ve plugged a digital camera into your PC, and it’s not recognising it. What do you do?”

Had to check that it wasn’t April after I’d finished, it was that much of a joke.
