App Keeps Track of Your Whack

With graphs detailing when you've had enough booze

I’m sure we’ve all had nights out where we venture into the world of our mobile phone and start behaving badly.

Perhaps you wake up the next morning and find that that your ideal partner in that drunken moment doesn’t want to explore the fornication option or that you insulted a perfect stranger whose number you happen to have before accidentally sending a lewd message to your mum instead of Marianne.

But this year, the government is encouraging using your mobile phone after a couple of drinks for personal good.

To stay on top of the inevitable scrapes festive drinkers will experience, an iPhone app designed to keep tabs on one’s drink levels has been released aiming to help keep an eye on one’s consumption, offering advice and information on how to cut down.

As part of the government’s £9m Know Your Limits marketing campaign, the Alcohol Tracker will be available free via the NHS Choices website and iTunes.

The app requires boozers to enter the number of drinks they consume each day before offering personalised graphs making it clear how and by how much they should cut down.

Drinkaware chief executive Chris Sorek said: “Efforts to help people keep track of how much they’re drinking over the festive season and throughout the year are a good idea.”

He added avoiding excess drinking would help people avoid the “January slump” as well as helping them keep healthy.
