Spandau in Space
'I'll Fly For You' - who? Me?
They were once chiseled, spandex-clad new romantic heartthrobs before an acrimonious split but newly reformed Spandau Ballet are to play the first great big gig in the sky.
The band has reportedly signed up to perform in space on Virgin’s forthcoming Enterprise mission.
They will have five minutes of weightlessness – something they’d welcome these days – to perform one track.
Sir Richard Branson’s new spacecraft, which was unveiled earlier this week in the Mojave Desert, is to begin operating commercial flights in 18 months time.
Around 300 people have put their name on the waiting list to pay $200,000 or £120,000 to take the zero-gravity flight which takes passengers 50,000 feet above the earth surface before rockets blast the vehicle a further 65 miles to the edge.
Spandau Ballet will perform either I’ll Fly For You, Gold or True, according to founding member Steve Norman.
All recording equipment for the gig will be remotely controlled from base camp as only six passengers and two pilots are allowed to board the vessel.
