UK Networks Bid for iPad Rights
... I know we're getting a bit sick of it too.
Apple today confirmed the iPad will be available to buy in the UK from March, sparking a race for first dibs between mobile phone network operators vying to provide internet through the device.
The Times reports that Orange has squeezed to the head of the queue to provide 3G mobile internet to the product, unveiled in San Fran last night.
It is believed that negotiations will open up with other operators, including O2 and Vodafone very soon.
Whilst Wi-Fi connective iPad’s may be available within two months, the 3G version could be available in the UK as early as April.
At the launch event, Apple’s Steve Jobs said he was starting negotiations with mobile carriers today, AT&T will be the first supporter in the US.
None of O2, Vodafone or Orange and T-Mobile was making any feelings on the matter public.
