Being a student, I couldn’t put in the time it wanted from me, Being a final fantasy purist since 7 rocked my world as a kid, I wanted to love FF13 – But after 15 hours, I’d still done nothing but run down 3 corridors, and punched out Shiva.

So I traded it in, It just didn’t hold me like I expected.

Great review, although as Alex said, the bits about previous instalments are a little misleading, but .. small potatoes.

I would like to take you to task on the thing about there being a radical departure with no towns. Well, not until you get about 20-25 hours in, then the game opens up (a remarkably silly move in my opinion – 5-10 hours in would have been perfect) and the towns appear. Not quite in the same fashion as before, but they’re there nonetheless.

The only thing that I’ve found to be frowned upon (and bear in mind that graphics mean little to me), is the difference between some of the scenes in quality. It’s quite clear – and other reviews have touched upon this – that you can be watching a particular cut-scene, and mid-way through, quality will improve, and maybe drop back again. It makes a glaringly obvious point of the timescale involved, as scenes should not chop back and forth like this; in some places it’s horrible.

But with those niggles aside, it’s a fan’s dream yet again.

There’s been some criticism of the lack of story, but as with XII, it never bothered me because the gameplay mechanic was SOOO good (probably why I love WoW, but couldn’t tell you a damned thing about the storyline to it).

And I know IX wasn’t everybody’s cup of tea, but I loved it, and my tattoos are testament to this!

This was a great review! Very well written and structured. Reading your descriptions makes me want to save up to buy a PS3!

Awesome review. I’m playing the game myself and think you hit the nail right on the head. The game has a few flaws but my FF googles allow me to completely ignore them and enjoy the game in its full glory.

Hey Alex, ah yeah, there was actually an edit that I made afterwards. I’ll paste it here so then I’ve got myself covered.

“In many ways, every single game that has come out after Final Fantasy VIII has been doomed to complete and utter failure. Not that they weren’t good games, each one was fantastic, but each one failed to measure up to the shoes of the seventh or eighth instalment.”

Though personally, I adored Final Fantasy X. And that first sentence is just a generalisation, of course!

Great review Simi. I’m a couple of hours into it now and the battle system is brilliant and speedy without feeling like the party leader you control is running around with a group of imbeciles (XII take note!). My only worry is the exploration and sidequest depth getting the same smash ‘n’ grab treatment.

Good review. Im about 7 hours into the game myself, still no world map which is disappointing. I have had to turn on subtitles and turn off the volume a couple of times because of Vanille, unbelievably bad voice acting on her part. Paradigm system is fun though and addictive xD
