Nokia Patents Hand Controller
New input methods afoot
Publicly available patent applications are opening the door to a variety of future tech being contemplated in the R&D departments across the gadget world.
With a series of Apple and Sony patent applications whetting our appetites recently, it comes as no surprise that increasingly bizzare input methods are being patented by the big boys in the mobile world. Multi-touch was of course just the start of a new wave of interface possibilities which may soon be employed to convince us that using a keypad is just too dull.
One of Nokia’s latest patents includes a futuristic sleeve or glove. The user is able to manipulate it by making small physical movements of the wrist or fingers, and there’s also a pair of rather retro-looking glasses which display a heads-up menu. The combination of these two accessories could lead to all sorts of augmented reality options, but precisely what this is intended for is difficult to ascertain at such an early stage.

Above is just one of the diagrams featured in a fairly lengthy patent PDF which, if you wish to see for yourself, can be viewed HERE.
What do you think? If new input methods like the one featured here became available, would they appeal to you?
