EA’s New Phone Game Studio

8lb Gorilla is a ‘micro-studio’

Software behemoth EA has formed a new studio to work exclusively on creating  games for mobile phones.

According to EA, 8lb Gorilla is a ‘micro-studio’, staffed mainly by young developers and programmers, which will focus on developing casual, pick up and play games for the iPhone market.

While the parent company has enjoyed considerable App Store success with premium content such as The Sims 3 and the Tiger Woods and Need For Speed franchises, 8lb Gorilla games will be positioned at the lower end of the price scale (referred to in the US as the ‘99¢ market’).

It is planned that 8lb Gorilla will release content on a monthly basis, with its first game, Zombies & Me, available now for 59p.
