South Park Duo Making Broadway Musical

Mormon-based musical hits the stage next year

South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone are nearing completion of their first broadway musical.

The Colorado duo have penned the script, music and lyrics along with Avenue Q co-creator Robert Lopez for their production The Book of Mormon, set to premier in March next year.

The production tells the story of two Mormon missionaries sent to Uganda to spread the word of the church.

The show will be directed by Parker and Avenue Q director Jason Moore.

Parker and Stone said in a joint statement the project was “a dream come true”.

Parker and Stone have previously written a musical episode of the popular animated series based on the story of the Mormon faith and its founder Joseph Smith Jr.

Their 1999 South Park film Bigger Longer and Uncut was largely based upon Parker and Stone’s diverse musical composition.

The 200th episode of South Park – known for its politically incorrect humour – will be shown in the US this week.
