Black Eyed Peas’ Download Milestone

First million-selling download single

The band’s single I Gotta Feeling has become the first single to notch over a million downloads in the UK.

Released in June last year, the single was top of the charts for a fortnight and spent a further 31 weeks in the top 40.

Downloads were included as part of the chart make-up in 2005, and although they now account for 98 percent of single sales, it has taken this long for a record to shift over a million.

Martin Talbot of the Official Charts Company, said the milestone was “a very significant step for the download market.

“It’s been with us for five years but this really marks a coming of age,” he added.
