Horrific Cobain Press Release

Our mate thought he was called ‘Kirky Bain’

Look, we’re pretty immune to marketing speak. But Activision’s press release to formally announce the appearance of Kurt Cobain in Guitar Hero 5 manages to cram in more meaningless epithets than Jesse Jackson’s eulogy at the MJ tribute show.

Some of the more cringeworthy efforts include:

‘Grunge Rock Pioneer and Icon Kurt Cobain’

‘One of the most iconic artists in the history of alternative rock’

‘Kurt Cobain’s enduring legacy continues with his video game debut’

‘This is the first time the original recording of Smells like Teen Spirit has ever been licensed in an entertainment property’

Yeah, cause Kurt, like, always really wanted to be part of an ‘entertainment property.’ Sheesh.

Yeah I have to admit I’m with you on this one. It’s one thing to use the tunes in a game, it’s another to have him in the game itself.

Don’t get me wrong, I loved the bands songs and was very much part of that scene back when I watched him play live on Channel 4′s The Word.

But like most of these types of things, it’s just another form of prostitution (maybe that word is a little harsh…meh), labels trying to cash in once again. Much like the albums that seem to come out after the artist has died.
