Archos Shows off Android Tablet
Three home screens and a range of apps
The Archos 5 has been out for about a year, but this week the company hosted an event in Paris where it showcased a newly revamped version of the Personal Media Player, the Archos 5 Internet Tablet, now running an Android operating system. The Archos devices have suffered in the past from unappealing user interfaces, and the following official video demonstrates a much smoother experience than we’ve seen from them in the past.
Every company seems to want their own App store and Archos is no exception, hence the introduction of their new Apps Lib. This is essentially a sub-store for large Android devices; essentially anything larger in capacity than a smartphone such as a netbook, MID or tablet.
The upshot is that the new tablet has three home screens and a range of apps that allow you to customise the experience.
The Archos 5 has built in Wi-Fi and can also be tethered to a 3.5G mobile phone via Bluetooth connection, meaning that you can use your existing internet package to access the web.
The 4.8 inch touchscreen offers HD: 720p and is gorgeous to look at. We were already fans of the original model, especially given its ability to stream and record internet TV stations such as the BBC iPlayer.
The Archos 5 Internet Tablet costs £274.99 for the 32GB version or £299.99 for the 160GB model.

I wonder if Ubuntu MID would install on it?
