Verbatim Bluetooth Audio Cube

This will make the bus a horrible place to be

I’m almost tempted not to post this review of the Verbatim Bluetooth Audio Cube for fear of what pain it’s going to bring to my daily commute.

You could sell 100 units of this device in a school playground in full knowledge you’d be making commuters’ lives hell at the hands of Happy Hardcore schoolies.

But this little device is loud enough to do the reviewing for itself, such a novel idea and ideal for a host of external activities.

I’m back to using my archaic Nokia N95 8GB purely down to the amount of music I can store on it, so imagine my delight when the Bluetooth sensors in each met immediately like lover’s eyes across the room.

My paranoia about getting left behind by all these fangled smartphones was unfounded as my old dog has learned a new trick. This smashing wee device is ideal for making noise out of a forgotten handset using just a little Bluetooth sparkle.

The Cube is just that, at 70 x 70 x 70 it’s titchy and extremely light; notable subterfuge for the sound it can emit through Bluetooth power for up to eight meters away.

The device has a really sleek top panel with the on button acting as the Bluetooth control hub whilst play/pause, skip and volume controls allow you to control the musical mood on your device via Bluetooth from afar.

Bluetooth speakers aren’t a new invention, but the size, weight and power of this thing has to be heard. What better way to annoy all inhabitants of our offices.

So I did just that.

Cranking up some Barry White, I went for a walk around my colleagues, serenading all in my path with the walrus of love and his soft bass beats, did the girls pay attention? Damn straight.

Blasting a bit of Barry really let this little beaut show its bass capability. It pulsed away nicely accommodating everything from Barry to Aphex Twin, Tiesto and back to Bjorn Again. One minor criticism is the lack of musical control. The device itself doesn’t feature switches to modify the sound setting so your genre of music can purr on optimum setting.

Yet, I’d never have imagined a simple Bluetooth sound cube, that costs around the 40 pound mark and takes four AA batteries, could emit your music with such vigor. It’s devilishly cute, small enough for a jacket pocket and takes up so little space to be a necessity for any camping trip or summer night in the garden.

Full volume is loud enough to fill a good sized room, yet this is where my fear lies. Selling these in a school playground would be like cookies to the herbally intoxicated. The use this unit will receive on public transport may counteract the environmental effort as drivers will opt once more to take their cars.

Equipped with firm knowledge that these getting into the hands of the school bussers would mean making life less tolerable for their fellow commuters; the bombastic beats of Bonkers, Happy Hardcore or perhaps even a cheeky Gilbert O’Sullivan pounding hungover ears on the school run. If you think mobile music chavvers are bad now…

The Verbatim Bluetooth Audio cube links directly to your music device if you don’t have Bluetooth on your model but the real fun is cranking this wee number up to 11 and walking 20 paces away, your stone-age mobile phone and all those forgotten tunes is brought back to life with this quirky Bluetooth enabled device. An ideal gift, handy to have around and a real spot of cute ingenuity from Verbatim.

Speakers on laptops generally being so small and ‘tinny’ this strikes me as being an ideal wireless solution for that too!
Great device – just wondering if I can put it through on expenses?!? lol

Yes I imagine it would send a shiver down any commuters spine at the prospect of having their heart rate teased by a mass of D&B, but not being a commuter myself I am unconcerned! (sorry)

Yes for sure, although they are already being heavily worked as it is! lol
