The Star Theatre Planetarium

Daylight saving time is back, and the precious hours of sun are dwindling at an alarming rate.  This might sound a little depressing, but night-time is not without its merits.  Cold crisp autumn nights mean that the stars come out in full force, with all of their romantic associations.

The only problem is that with the longer nights comes the freezing British weather which makes camping outdoors under the starry skies out of the question if you want to avoid hypothermia.

We have the answer: cheat.  Many of us had little glow in the dark stars affixed to our childhood bedroom ceilings, but a new product on Firebox goes one better. The Star Theatre Planetarium uses the same lens as a full-blown commercial planetarium to show real constellations in high detail.

The projector uses ultra-bright white LED technology to beam 10,000 slowly moving stars over your walls and ceiling, so that you can pretend you’re sleeping by a romantic campfire a la Brokeback Mountain.   The kit includes special discs to display both stars and delineated constellations and mimics celestial movement in both northern and southern hemispheres.

For extra gasp factor you can also set the Star Theatre to display shooting stars at random intervals, all viewable from the cosiness of your duvet.  Whether you choose to re-enact certain scenes from said cowboy film under the glory of the cosmos is a matter of personal choice.

The Star Theatre Planetarium is available now from Firebox for  £119.95, not cheap I grant you but magical nonetheless.
