Prince of Persia Trailer
Street Fighter Alpha, BloodRayne, House of the Dead; the list of woeful movie adaptations of popular video games is huge. Film makers have been trying to cash in on the popularity of the gaming sectoer for years, in the hope that they’ll have a ready-made fanbase, but for many of us the results tend to be disappointing. Common complaints range from feeble plots and scripts to awful wooden acting and poor attention to detail.
Once in a blue moon, however, the movie moguls get it right. Tombraider isn’t all that bad, and the makers of Resident Evil and Mortal Kombat should be able to walk the streets unburdened by the heavy mantle of shame.
You may be aware that an adaptation of Prince of Persia is just around the corner, and fans of the game have been waiting nervously to see what Disney has decided to do with “The Sands of Time”.
The film’s trailer has appeared on YouTube and it looks as though gamers can breathe a sigh of relief.
The film has an estimated budget of $150 million, and from what we’ve seen so far, it looks as though this has been put to good use. There’s an impressive cast list, with and English accented Jake Gyllenhaal as the eponymous Prince, and the much of the film was shot on location in Morocco, so the sets are suitably impressive.
The story has apparently stuck closely to the original plot of the 2003 game Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, with the narrative centering on a magical time bending dagger. In fact, the script was co-written by Jordan Mechner, the creator of the 1989 original.
The film is due out in the UK on the 27th of May 2010.
