Geeks offer users the opportunity to comment on news items, engage in discussions on our forum and at the base of articles and post articles about subjects we feel our readership may be interested in.
The editorial staff will delete comments that we find detract from the enjoyment of geeks.co.uk.
We ask that articles posts, comments and message board notices abstain from breaching items mentioned in the following list.
Those who consistently ignore these guidelines will be blocked from posting further comments. If you want to proliferate messages that sway from the ethos of geeks.co.uk as an entertainment portal for people who use and love gadgets and gaming the net is full of websites that are better suited for your needs.
The following types of posts may be deleted:
1. Use of offensive racial / gender / sexual preference / religion-bashing terms or other hurtful speech. If you use a word with racial overtones in your post name, that counts.
2. Excessive use of swear or insensitive words, and cussing in titles of comments / messages. We encourage healthy debate and at times colourful language may be appropriate but don’t go overboard.
3. Spam and links to spam. If you want to advertise, contact us directly.
4. “First Posts,” “nth post,” and discussion of them with no meaningful commentary. We don’t mind if you want to be first and list “first post” as your subject, just add some meaningful commentary besides a one-liner that is obviously there to satisfy this requirement.
5. Links to inappropriate or unrelated content such as porn, distasteful pictures, etc. Many workplaces use geeks.co.uk and we don’t want to be the source of embarrassment for anyone who gets a nasty shock. We don’t want to be synonymous with any of this type of material.
6. Names, addresses, phone numbers, e-mails, etc. If you want to include your e-mail in a post, that’s fine. Just don’t type someone else’s information, and we would advise steering clear of posting phone numbers altogether
7. Nonsensical posts that have little to do with the topic, repetitive diatribes or mad train-of-thought rants posted to multiple items are a real turn-off. Off-topic hinder discussion so we ask readers to ignore such posts and don’t rise or respond to them. It’s hard to keep comments clear of these posts if several people respond to them and they mix with actual commentary.
8. Personal attacks on other www.geeks.co.uk members or writers. Comment on ideas, not people. It’s just plain not nice, insensitive and in poor taste to attack people good enough to contribute to the site.
9. Comments on grammar and spelling and any related discussion. We are debating and commenting on posts, not how proficient someone is in their linguistic skills. Mistakes are inevitable but we’d rather receive an email directly to us so we can ammend any glaring mistakes.
10. Product activation codes for software, requests for such, or other warez-related posts or links.
11. Impersonations of other contributors or member’s post names and related discussion.
12. Double postings and “Sorry for the double post” messages. we appreciate your apology but the editorial staff will snare any double posts so don’t feel the need to let us know.
13. Xenophobic, anti-country remarks are pointless and sends debate downhill. Be respectful if English is not someone’s first language.
14. Incomprehensible posts or posts in ALL CAPS. When you read caps it looks like someone is angry and shouting. Don’t.
15. If you are published on www.geeks.co.uk you own all copyright to your work and are free to publish it anywhere else you see fit, the only stipulation being that geeks.co.uk’s parents company, 7thingsmedia, can use the article for the furtherance of our site and our sister sites by quoting some or all of the article only on pages owned by 7thingsmedia.
